Powell Peralta's vert team, including top skaters like Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill and Lance Mountain, was at its peak in the late 1980's. In order to appeal to the growing "Street-Style" market, the company began to add new "street" pros to their pro roster. Tommy Guerrero, Mike Vallely, and Ray Barbee were some of the notable additions, followed by Long Beach local Steve Saiz. Sean Cliver, a newly acquired artist, designed Saiz's Native American "totem pole" graphic for his deck model in 1989. Despite his unfortunate knee injury in the early 1990's, Saiz continued to skate for Powell-Peralta.
